The leader of Redcar and Cleveland Borough Council, Councillor Mary Lanigan, visited Lynas Engineers at Redcar’s Wilton Centre recently to discuss local supply chain and regional growth.
Lynas Engineers, a civil engineering company established in the region in 2016, is the winner of Small Business of the Year from NEPIC as well as having received many other accolades; Lynas Engineers are champions of investing in local business and projects.
“With so many incredible projects currently in development in the Tees Valley, including TeesWorks, it’s hard to not get excited about the future of the region – and what comes next”, said Lynas Engineers Managing Director Rob Lynas.
Rob said; “We set up five years ago to make a difference to our area, to work on projects in communities close to our hearts, using local teams to create amazing spaces for everyone. We have been fortunate enough to work on projects across the country, in collaboration with our Preferred Partners scheme where we connect businesses with key partners to work together with; but the Tees Valley is the real jewel in the crown and working on developments here is a real priority for me and the team.”
Lynas Engineers are working to deliver their ‘Professional and Personal Engineering Design’ tag line by investing heavily in a team from the Tees Valley. With over 60% of the current staff having begun on an apprenticeship route, or currently studying on one, Rob said “There’s an absolute wealth of talent in the Tees Valley, with next generation engineers coming through the ranks and making a difference; it’s really exciting to see. It’s also a cornerstone of our plans to grow to incorporate apprentices at every section of the business, to reduce any skills shortages by building our team around them, but also; and more importantly, keeping rising stars in the region too”.
Local Supply Chain is a hot topic for Redcar and Cleveland Council Leader, Mary Lanigan with many acknowledging her passion and drive to keep business and new talent local where it can thrive. Cllr Lanigan said; “Our area is full of talented and ambitious people and I’m always glad to see opportunities arising locally for our residents to flourish professionally and take further steps in their careers. Local business will always have a significant value in our area and it brings me great joy to see them growing.”
The Lynas Engineers team spent an animated meeting with Ms. Lanigan discussing routes to business development in Redcar and Cleveland and the range of potential opportunities opening up all the time. Lynas Engineers Director, Wayne Farrell said; “it was really refreshing to have those conversations about the potential threats regional business can face, but Mary’s attitude and her sheer resilience is part of what makes our region so interesting to work and live in – it’s the people behind the projects. Mary obviously feels strongly about developing Redcar and Cleveland, and the Tees Valley as a whole – and so do we”.
