More than a networking event, Constructing Links 2026 brought together businesses and future talent from across the region to create new connections, share opportunities and inspire the next generation.
When you get the right people in the right space, great things can happen. That was certainly the case at this year’s event, which welcomed businesses, industry professionals and students for a day centred around collaboration, learning and meaningful connections.
Four years ago, we decided that, as a company that has experienced the peaks and troughs of supply chain challenges, we had a responsibility to help others navigate those tests more effectively. That is where the concept of Constructing Links, and our Preferred Partners network, was born.
We wanted to bring people together with a shared ethos: working collaboratively, being open to new opportunities and creating value for others. The first Constructing Links event was held in Redcar and, since then, has evolved into something much bigger – a full-day collaborative exhibition alongside a high-impact session delivered in partnership with the MFC Foundation.
This year’s event was an incredible reflection of the passion and dedication of organisations from across the North. It provided a platform not only to create and strengthen working relationships, but also to discuss many of the challenges facing industry today.
The morning welcomed students from Abdingdon Primary, Trinity Catholic College and Sacred Hearts School in Middlesbrough. Exhibitors hosted a range of interactive activities designed to showcase their businesses, career opportunities and the breadth of opportunities available across engineering, construction and the wider supply chain.
For many students, it was an opportunity to speak directly with professionals working across the sector, helping to bring future career pathways to life. The students were superb, asking insightful questions and enthusiastically taking part in challenges throughout the morning. We do think, however, that the Lynas Engineers task of building secure structures with spaghetti and marshmallows proved to be a firm favourite.
Lynas Engineers Director Carl Kemp said: “It was an inspiring day – stepping away from projects and into conversations with young people was a reminder of why our industry matters beyond the infrastructure we deliver. The Lynas Engineers team enjoyed sharing our experiences, answering questions and giving an honest insight into what a career in engineering can look like.
The curiosity, confidence and ambition shown throughout the day was impressive, and we left feeling just as inspired as the people we met. Thank you to everyone who helped create such a positive and engaging event.”
The afternoon session opened its doors to the public to meet members of the Preferred Partners network and invited businesses from across the region. The conversations in the room were charged with optimism, opportunity and, above all, a genuine commitment to collaborative working.
