Over our careers we had built up contacts and relationships; and those early days of the business were spent getting in touch to tell people the plan and hopefully get the opportunity to get involved with some projects, however, our first project came from a different source, much closer to home.
My wife was, and is, a teacher at Belmont School in Guisborough and she mentioned the new business to the headteacher who had been planning on increasing parking provision on the site for some time. I had the first meeting to discuss their plans on the 18th November 2016, three weeks after registering the business. The scheme wasn’t going to employ an office full of people, or make us rich, but it was a start, and it gave us some confidence that people would trust us.
The project couldn’t have been more perfect for a first job, it involved the preparation of a feasibility report and options to provide additional parking spaces for teachers and visitors in a constrained and secure site. We managed to find space for 22 additional parking bays by re-marking existing areas and providing new construction areas.
Our role included preparing a planning submission and getting approval; preparing the detailed design, procuring a contractor for the works and supervising and project managing the construction works on site. The works were delivered in the school summer holidays on time and in budget.
This was project number 16001, the first of well over 500 projects that we have worked on the last 10 years.
