Client: Esh Construction. End User: Rotherham MBC

Location: Rotherham (Water Lane and Riverside)

Project Summary:

The scheme involved the survey, preliminary and detailed design of a £4.4 million improvement scheme along the Rotherham Riverside as part of the town’s regeneration.

The project included the construction of a new access road and a riverside footpath linking Water Lane to the town centre, alongside extensive landscaping and infrastructure upgrades to open up brownfield land for future development.  The design included significant site clearance, earthworks, deep drainage, footways and pavements, fencing and gabion baskets to form a retaining wall feature.

A key component of the scheme saw complex piling works used to futureproof the riverbank and support the Riverside walkway. Over 250 sheet piles – 127 pairs weighing up to six tonnes each and measuring between 14-18 metres in length were installed; we worked closely with a specialist piling designer to fix the line and level based on flood levels, existing ground and future land use.  The scheme also included the design of a car park extension for an adjacent business with security fencing and emergency access.

Lynas Engineers acted as Principal Designer throughout the scheme; during the construction period we responded to TQs; provided updates based on ground conditions and unknown site constraints; and advised on H&S issues.  On completion we provided as-built drawings and the H&S File. Working in collaboration with Esh Construction we ensured materials, specifications, and working methods were in keeping with planning; local and national guidelines and standards
