Client: Meldrum Construction Services Ltd
Location: James Cook University Hospital, Middlesbrough
Project Summary:
Working in partnership with Meldrum Construction Services, the Lynas Engineers team was instructed to carry out site inspections at James Cook University Hospital in Middlesbrough to identify areas required to be upgraded, made safe or added to a programme of works for the future.
Utilising a drone survey, the Lynas Engineers team were able to update the existing site plan, giving an up to-date visual of the site following changes to car parking etc. The team were able to utilise the information from the survey to revise the Ordnance survey details, updating the position and orientation to reflect the ‘real life’ layout of the site in its current state.
The team spent time on site to record, catalogue and grade any existing risks to health and safety for the public and staff onsite including trip hazards, potholes etc. These were recorded and allocated a grade, depending on severity and urgency of work. A set of recommendations was compiled with a timeline to cover all health and safety risks for the immediate, near and future works programmes.
This work was photographed, catalogued, and handed to Meldrum Construction (the client) to complete their assessment and recommendations to Serco, the site owners.
Our team completed a comprehensive health and safety induction in order to be present on the site for these inspections. They were also trained in managing challenges from staff or the public as to their purpose there and to be able to interact fully and professionally with all stakeholders they encountered.
Challenges:
Being able to access all parts of the site safely and completing a comprehensive
recommendation during peak access times in a busy site.
Successes:
A full and thorough set of recommendations was compiled and handed over to the client, all stakeholders were satisfied with the outcome and ultimately supported the improvement to safety of site users, including the public.
